Game Design Overview

Hex Tower Defense is a tactical tower defense game designed to put player decision-making at the center of every moment. Rather than placing towers in fixed positions and waiting, players must continuously build and adapt their strategy through two core mechanics: maze building (constructing barriers that re-route enemies) and the merge mechanic (combining towers to create more powerful variants).

This section analyzes the key design decisions behind the project:

  • Core Concept & Game Loop — The structure of the play loop and what sets it apart from traditional TD games
  • Hex Grid as a Design Tool — Why the hex grid was chosen and how it shapes the gameplay experience
  • Tower & Enemy Design — The design philosophy behind 5 tower types, status effects, and enemy behavior
  • Merge Mechanic — How tower combining works and its impact on player strategy
